An early winter storm blanketed WNC and Upstate South Carolina with two to seven inches of snow on Sunday, November 19, 2000. The snow began falling early Sunday morning and continued until mid-Sunday afternoon. The snow skiing industry is a major industry in WNC generating approximately $175 million in annual revenues for the regional economy. The bulk of this revenue, $140 million, is generated in Avery and Watauga counties where many of the ski resorts are located. So, if you have some time off during the holidays, grab your skis and hit the slopes.
