Described as an outstanding leader and educator, Joyce has more than 30 years experience in private higher education. He has served as the president of Ripon College in Ripon, Wis. since 2003.

The appointment comes after a national search that identified a number of talented candidates who were considered by the College�s Presidential Search Committee.

�Through extensive dialogue, Dr. Joyce has developed a solid appreciation of Brevard College � our history, culture, strengths, challenges, and opportunities,� said Reg Heinitsh Jr., chairman of Brevard College�s Board of Trustees. �The Trustees are confident that Dr. Joyce, with his excellent leadership qualities, experience, energy and commitment to our mission, will be an outstanding president.�

�I am excited and fortunate to have been chosen to serve as the next leader of Brevard College,� said Joyce. �I truly believe this college has unlimited potential as a church-related, residential liberal arts college. This is a crucial time for the college and I am looking forward to working with Interim President Charlie Teague over the next few months to make a seamless transition of leadership.

�Lynne and I are excited to return to the mountains of our home state. I began my career in higher education in North Carolina. This next chapter for us seems fortuitous as the circle now feels complete. I have always been proud of the rich tradition of higher education in North Carolina. Brevard College is steeped in its own traditions and it will be a privilege to represent this fine institution as we share this story with the wider world.�

Joyce will assume the presidency on January 1, 2012.

As president of Ripon College, Joyce established himself as one of the most hands-on, progressive leaders in the institution�s history. During his tenure, he outlined a bold vision for the future that would have been impossible without immediate improvements to the College�s fiscal health. Since then, the College has seen consistently balanced budgets, successful Annual Fund campaigns, a $20 million capital-improvement initiative, and perennial high marks from every major college ranking. Joyce was also the driving force behind the Ripon Velorution Project, a groundbreaking effort to address parking and environmental concerns by providing free bikes to freshmen who don't bring cars to campus.

From 1996-2003, Joyce served as president of Union College in Kentucky, an 850-student, regional, liberal arts college also affiliated with the United Methodist Church.He has also served as vice president for institutional advancement at Otterbein College in Ohio, and the chief advancement officer at several other institutions, including the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, The Divinity School at Vanderbilt University and Pfeiffer University.

He holds a bachelor�s degree in psychology from Pfeiffer University, a master of divinity in pastoral psychology from Yale�s Divinity School, a master of science in psychology from North Carolina State University and a doctorate in human resource development from Vanderbilt University.

Joyce is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. He has served on the governing boards of the National Association of Schools and Colleges of the United Methodist Church, the Council of Independent Colleges, Wisconsin Campus Compact, the Appalachia Service Project and the Appalachian College Association. Joyce served on the council of presidents for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the council of presidents and the presidents� advisory council for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. He currently serves as the chair of the board of directors for the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and the chair of the board of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. Finally, Joyce current sits on the governing boards of Ripon Main Street, Inc., Quest Charter School and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

For fun, Joyce and his wife, Lynne, enjoy mountain biking, whitewater canoeing, fly fishing and the occasional marathon.

�We would like to thank Dr. Charles Teague for his excellent guidance as our interim president,� added Heinitsh. �During his stewardship, we have benefitted significantly from his experience, knowledge and steady hand.

Moore, Jr., who in this process not only improved upon the expected timeline, but also exceeded our expectations in the outstanding experience of our new president.
