This spring, the Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC Asheville will offer university-level classes led by professional writers in chapbook construction, character creation, pitching and publishing, and more.

Courses will be taught in person and online and begin with a range of starting dates from mid-January to early April.

Turn your deepest fears into fuel for your next personal essay. Learn all the tools you need to (finally) finish that novel. Get feedback from a professional editor before submitting your poetry collection to publishers. The best part? You’ll do it all in the company of a supportive learning community of other writers and creatives.

Each course carries academic credit awarded through UNC Asheville. Enrollment is limited. Registration is open now.

Participants can choose from the following offerings:

5-Week Courses

  • Finish What You Started with Tessa Fontaine
  • Pitching and Publishing: Sending Your Short Stories, Poems, and Essays Into the World with Lockie Hunter
  • Deep Dive Into Character with Jacqui Castle
  • Stepping Over the Threshold: Seven Easy Steps to Starting Your Memoir with Sebastian Matthews
