February 11 is 211 Day – an annual observance celebrating the go-to three-digit (2-1-1) resource that helps millions of people in the U.S. and Canada – including those in Henderson County – be connected to information about local resources and services.
Last year, in Henderson County, 2-1-1 call specialists assisted over 1,000 people in the community get help for immediate or long-term challenges – resulting in over 2,000 referrals to local agencies that provided them with critical services.
Henderson County residents who need assistance with disaster relief, food, health care, mental health, insurance, stable housing, utility payments, veteran services, childcare and other related needs can dial 2-1-1 and speak to trained operators who know the local services that can provide support. These operators are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and assistance is offered in several languages.
“211 helps people, improves lives, and strengthens communities,” said Denise Cumbee Long, Executive Director of United Way of Henderson County. Established in 2000 by the Federal Communications Commission as the three-digit number to reach information and referral services for health, human, and social organizations, today 211 is a resource for help in communities across North America. Last year, the 211 network received 18 million requests and made a total of 19 million referrals for local services.
During 211 Day and all year round, United Way encourages residents in Henderson County to:

– Share 211 widely with their neighbors, family, and friends to connect others to help and supports
