Gorges State Park recently opened a family campground thanks to funds from the Connect N.C. Bond Project.
The 13-acre campground features five camper cabins, 14 campsites and 16 tent campsites. The campground also has a modern bathhouse.
Brantley Construction began work on the campground in Aug. 2020, but material and labor delays slowed the project. The new campground, finally completed this fall, will help meet the growing demand for outdoor recreation opportunities statewide, particularly state-of-the-art RV sites and cabins.
The park’s camper cabins offer power, A/C, heat and sleeping for six in two separate rooms, including two sets of bunk beds and one double bed. RV sites have 20-, 30- or 50-amp electric service and water and sewer hookups. Pets are not allowed in cabins but are welcome at tent and RV campsites.
Gorges State Park staff are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the new facilities.
“People have looked forward to this campground for a long time,” said Gorges State Park Superintendent Kevin Bischof. “These facilities will serve visitors with varied camping preferences and allow them to experience this fantastic park in a new way. There’s a lot to see here and staying on-site will make it easier to experience more during a visit.”
Prospective campers can make reservations for a site in the new campground at northcarolinastateparks.reserveamerica.com or by calling 877-722-6762. The first date available to camp is October 29.
