Try Tennis for Kids at Hendersonville Racquet Club: A Fun, Affordable Way to Get Into the Game!
Looking for a fun, active way to introduce your child to tennis? Try Tennis for Kids is the perfect program
for children ages 5â14 who are new to the sport or have had minimal experience. Over the course of six
weeks, your child will learn the fundamentals of tennis, including basic strokes, how to rally, and most
importantly, have fun learning a new sport!
For $40, each child will receive a free racquet and instruction from our coaches. This is a fantastic
opportunity to develop important skills in a supportive, welcoming environment.
Program Highlights:

â Dates: March 4th â April 15th (No class on March 18th for Spring Break)
â Sessions: 4â5 PM and 5â6 PM

Fishes of the Southern Appalachians with Carlton Burke

The Southern Appalachian region is rich with a variety of fish species. These include not only the better known species of game fish that we love to catch for sport or food, but also include an incredible diversity of smaller, lesser-known non-game fish, which play an important role in the ecology of our aquatic mountain habitats. In this class we will discuss many of the fish species found in the mountain region and learn about their classification, habitat, life cycles, and their identifying features.
This program includes a lab portion of the class where students will see some features of fish hands on with real fish specimens.
Protecting our Native Hemlocks: Treatment Demonstration with Hemlock Restorative Initiative

Join Hemlock Restoration Initiative staff for a demonstration and workshop in the Arboretum forest to learn the fundamentals of treating hemlock trees to protect them from the invasive insect, hemlock woolly adelgid. Designed for a general audience, this workshop is great for homeowners who steward hemlocks on their property or for anyone interested in learning treatment basics. Today hemlock management is simpler and less expensive than ever before!

Blue Ridge Naturalist â Elective Credit
With GPS built into our phones and cars, we are increasingly in danger of losing our ways of navigating. Expand your understanding of topographic and geologic maps with this course taught by Geologist Anton DuMars. An in-class portion will focus on an investigation of map symbols, scales, dates, color-coding, water features, and other attributes that are used to interpret data on topographic and geologic maps into. Then the class will move outside for a skills session to interpret real-world features within a map, stepping off on some exploration at the Arboretum. If you have one, please bring a handheld compass with you to the class but we will have some for students to borrow if needed.
This program takes place both indoors and out. Please come prepared to walk on gentle, yet uneven terrain, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Beginnerâs workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but itâs not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.
Now in its fourth year, The Prom Dress Exchange is continuing to help anyone feel fancy and fabulous for free! 1,600 formal and semi formal dresses size 00-4XL, as well as women’s suits and separates, shoes, jewelry and all the accessories are available at no charge. I also have a limited number of tuxedos, as well as menâs suits, slacks, shirts, vests and accessories to offer. Whether you are going to the prom or another spring dance, wedding, or anywhere you need special attire, âThe Prom Dress Exchangeâ has got what you need to make the occasion magical!

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad welcomes back the Bunny Hopper Express Easter Train, March 29 & 30! This 4 and half-hour round trip special event train departs the historic Bryson City Depot at 11:00 am and will travel through the Smoky Mountains to our picturesque layover destination for Easter-themed activities and Egg Hunt.
Passengers will be on the lookout for those train-hopping bunnies who have snuck on to take a free ride! Festivities include an Easter egg hunt with prizes, a give-away bag with activities to enjoy during the train ride, and a yummy Easter treat for our junior railroaders to enjoy at the layover. There will also be plenty of opportunities for pictures with our bunny hoppers, so do not forget your camera!

Suitable for Beginners to Advanced Birders
This outing takes place at Lake Julian Park from 8:30-11:30 am. Get to know the birds of Lake Julian, one of Buncombe County’s birding hotspots! We will start with a walk along the shore of Lake Julian and ends with birding on the lake from Lake Julianâs pontoon boat. Free, Registration Required. Binoculars are available upon request but supplies are limited. Dress for the weather!

After months of dedicated service providing over 1 million meals to Asheville and surrounding areas in partnership with World Central Kitchen (WCK), Bearâs Smokehouse BBQ is gearing up for an exciting grand reopening on Saturday, March 29. As WCK operations wind down on their property, Bearâs Smokehouse BBQ has fired up its own kitchen once again, welcoming guests back with its signature flavors and community-driven spirit.
To commemorate this milestone and bid farewell to the post-hurricane relief efforts, Bearâs Smokehouse is throwing an unforgettable event: âTo Hell with Helene.â This free community celebration will feature an evening of live music, comedy, food, and fun as a way to reflect, release, and rebuild.
